We used this site several times decades ago and at that time were amazed at how superior it was to others in the Edinburgh area. On returning in 2012 we found the trees and hedges had grown enormously, making for greater seclusion. But the site is much busier than it had been when we first knew it and the pitches seem smaller but are adequate for normal outfits. The once pristine toilet facilities are showing their age and can only be rated as a little better than average now. Perhaps the other sites have improved? The big plusses are that the wardens are friendly and helpful; the cleaners, and gardeners do their jobs thoroughly; the shop is handy, competitively priced and has caravan accesories as well as food items. Also the site is well-drained (which is not the case on some other sites in the area). Nearby, the "beach" is now quite a pleasant place to walk (it used to be an industrial wasteland) and the Industrial Museum area is tidier too. We enjoyed our walks down there. Musselburgh itself is a pleasant town with all the shops you would need and fine riverside parks. There are frequent buses from close to the site into Edinburgh and a Park and Ride is close by. However, it's an easy drive into town and there remain some good, cheap, (even free) car parks if you know where to look. Overall this is a good site in terms of both facilities and location. We have no hesitation in recommending it.
