Lickisto Blackhouse Camping 'Taste of Paradise' is the only way I can describe this campsite. I booked for 2 nights, stayed for 3, and am returning for another 4 to wind up my long break in Scotland and the Islands. This is the nicest site I've visited so far in 6 weeks, tho' the others have been good, Lickisto Blackhouse just has something unique about it, it's got into my soul. Beautiful, natural, peaceful surroundings, (created by great hosts,) great facilities. I'm travelling alone so meeting others in the Blackhouse and sharing pleasant evenings was lovely, having a conversation with oneself can be boring. This is a place I recommend to anyone, tho' maybe not if you're physically disabled as the site is sloping and slightly rugged. Lickisto Blackhouse Camping Have just got home and wished we were still there,when we arrived at the site we were met at the gate and made to feel so welcome, even although we had not booked, shown around the site by Harvey and the excellent pitches for our tent but decided in a bit of luxury and stayed in a yurt. This site is well worth the journey and is made not only by the location but also the hosts Harvey & John. When out our bikes we returned to find a freshly baked loaf on our table what a nice touch. Lickisto Blackhouse Camping fantastic first class camp site. stayed in yurt. 5 ***fantastic. John and harvey great guys. They have put 110% work into this site. Everything is thought of. We were met off the bus with a friendly smile and help as we had travelled from auchinleck by local bus networks and ferry. The blackhouse facilities were great. Hot hot water. fresh bread and eggs given to campers. views well what can we say. toilets and showers and toilet rolls! can't wait to get back. it poured and we were cosy with the woodburning fire. Tranquil Retreat We visited this place for a week from the 24th July and it exceeded all expectations! John, Harvey and Bryan are wonderful hosts and great people to have a chat with when they pass the tent to take the never-ending supply of fresh bread to the Blackhouse. The site is stunning, especially if you catch the sunset. Parking on the roadside and using the supplied wheelbarrows to transport your possessions adds to the quirkiness of this wonderful and surreal environment. The site and island has to be visited to be fully appreciated! Will be back next year for sure! Lickisto Blackhouse Camping Just back from Lickisto. Amazing place. An other worldly feel to the surroundings. We had a fabulous pitch right at the loch. John and Harvey have got the balance just right between wild camping and lifes little luxuries( great shower facilities, fresh eggs and home baked bread). The star of the site is the Blackhouse which was extremely welcome given that we had one day of wet weather. John and Harvey are incredible hosts and ensure that campers are wanting for nothing. An amazing , surreal, quirky experience from start to finish and one I hope to repeat in the future. Don't miss the opportunity to stay here whilst on Harris. Hugely recommended. Thanks lads. Lickisto Blackhouse Camping Fantastic 5 star wilderness camping. John and Harvey have got it absolutly right We were motorcycling around Scotland and this was a brilliant balance between wilderness location and great facilities, I have not stayed in a better site in 30 odd years. But this is not a commercial site there is no bar or shop or playground just beautiful surroundings and a fantastic atmosphere, if you like the outdoors it is unsurpassed. Vehicles cannot get down to the pitches but wheelbarrows are provided which is all part of the quirkyness of the place. The site goes down to the sea and there are rustic seats to each pitch so you can just chill out and watch the otters playing in the sea. There is a small beach with wood for a fire and fishing gear. The blackbarn which is a 200 year old stone croft has a very nice bathroom and kitchen area with toaster and a kettle. But it also has a large pine table and seat, plus lounge area if the weather is not good. The are two other shower areas as well which are not your average camp site breeze block lumps! Best of all numerous chickens and ducks wander around and you can have fresh, just laid eggs eggs and the best home baked bread. What a better way to start the day with an egg sandwich. The place had a frontier spirit about it which is so refreshing in this day and age. Well recommended. Lickisto Blackhouse Camping THE best site in Scotland, GB, The World. John and Harvey have got it just right. The location is fabulous, the service is first-rate and often goes above and beyond what is merely required. Harvey and John are excellent hosts and make everyone feel very welcome. The pitches are well spaced and give plenty of room with privacy provided by screens of willow and gunnera. It does not have ( Thank Goodness) a pleasure park for kids but children that do go there have a whale of a time playing, fishing, feeding the chickens etc. so at night there is peace and quiet - except for the evenings when there is home-made entertainment and then the thick walls of the blackhouse tend to absorb most of the sound and the convivial atmosphere created is pervaded by the scent of peat smoke and the sound of folk-song. John and harvey are very generous with their home-made bread and new-laid eggs and even more generous with their friendship and camaraderie. Lickisto Blackhouse Camping Stayed here for two nights whilst on a motorcycling holiday around the Hebrides this September. Not laid out as a conventional campsite, you can choose where to camp in the surrounding moorland and have as much privacy as you want. The facilities are full of character and are the best I have come across in Scotland. The toilets / showers are immaculate (The toilet roll holder is a set of deer antlers!) and the black house is a great place to meet other campers in the evening or to cook in, we used it when the wind dropped and the midges came out! Fresh bread and eggs are provide each day by the owners Harvey and John who dropped by now and again. The views to the hills and loch are amazing, this is an ideal site to use as a base for seeing Harris and Lewis. We were blessed by amazing weather whilst there, and I'm sure we will be back. Lickisto Blackhouse Camping What a brilliant campsite - we found it as refugees from windswept beach sites after a tornado the day we arrived on the Hebrides. The site was sheltered and in the most beautiful location. The hot showers were great on damp mornings. We saw an otter on our first morning! Our one night stretched to three, until we had to move on. The Blackhouse is amazing and every campsite should have one. So cosy in the evenings with the smell of the peat fire and (not always, but while we were there) the fiddle music and singing. John and Harvey have a winner with this - don't change it. Lickisto Blackhouse Camping Amazing, tranquil, beautiful location, definately the best part of our holiday! Harvey and John are great guys and make you feel very welcome, loved the freshley baked bread and eggs! the scenery is everything you imagine a Hebridean Island should be with wonderful views over the sea loch! and of course the otters and seals were a joy to watch! The showers and toilet are very clean and the site is just big enough to feel like you truley are away from it all! even the rain didn't spoil things as we had the Blackhouse to shelter in at night, very warm and welcoming with the log burner and a few 'drams' shared with the few other campers! fantastic experience, highly recommended, my advice...make sure you have a midge net if you are going to otter watch at dawn or dusk down by the lochside, the blighters seemed to ignore my Scottish hubby and head straight for my English meat!! Lickisto Blackhouse Camping What a find! We camped here for 5 nights at the end of May/beginning of June 2009. The owners Harvey and John were very friendly and laid back which helped add to the relaxed atmosphere of the campsite. It was very easy to spend a few hours down by the water watching the wildlife with a barbecue and a few cold beers. Perfect! At night the blackhouse was warm and comfortable and gave an opportunity to meet other campers. Shower facilities were fantastic. All in all a really special place which was easily the highlight of our holiday. ..and I haven't even mentioned the eggs and bread!! Brilliant. Lickisto Blackhouse Camping May 2009 Spent 2 nights at this gem of a site on our tour of the Outer Hebrides. This is the site for those who want comfort and tranquility, and space. Designed for low impact camping it takes smallish tents and can accommodate one small campervan (hard standing area). The showers are newly built in stone building with heather thatched roof and are spacious. There is a heated restored blackhouse to use to cook and socialise in. The hosts, Harvey and John, are very friendly and helpful. Don't miss it if you are on the islands.
