This site has gone downhill considerably since my visits in recent years. It has always been my understanding that free camping is permitted on the grass area behind the boathouse in order to discourage wild camping around the island. When we were confronted by the new owner he denied that this was the case and that it had always been the case that camping was not free despite the fact he had only been there for a year. In addition the campsite was littered with dog faeces that the new owner had failed to make sure was cleared up. Having said this i would not discourage anyone from visiting the beautiful island of Gigha but just to be wary of the new Boathouse owner.

Beautiful setting minutes from ferry slipway, no Show more

Beautiful setting minutes from ferry slipway, no need for transport to it. Shower/toilets basic but functional. Shower takes a £1 coin. Pub serves food til 9 ish then you can go up to hotel 5 min walk away. Just minutes to Achamore gdns also which is a pleasant way to spend couple of hrs

We stayed on Gigha in September 2007 and were allowed to take our fairly small camper on to the island having rung the hotel first. The facilities are good enough but they are public facilities so expect to share with walkers etc. The water tap took some finding - it's on the sea side of the facilities. Everyone is very friendly, there is a local shop which sells everything and the island is superb.
