Shieldaig Camping Area Fantastic transformation of this campsite with hardstanding pitches with water and electricity at each of the 20 pitches. A superb new toilet, shower and dishwashing block offers 1st class facilities. Locally made produce is available via an honesty box next to the toliet/shower block. We finished our Highland Tour at Shieldaig with a couple of nights but could have stayed longer no problem. We were made to feel very welcome by the hosts and we will definately be back. Shieldaig Camping Area The site is v small, there were 5 campervans and around the same amount of tents when we arrived but we managed to find enough space for our tent. The ground is stoney so its a bit tough to get the tent pegs in. There's just a cold water tap and that's your lot. However and despite all the above, its one of the best sites we've ever stayed at. The views are stunning and the pub, which serves excellent food and is dog friendly, is a five minute walk from the site (as are the public loos). The village is lovely and there are great walks in the area. Perfect no frills camping - love it! Shieldaig Camping Area After staying one night and packed to go I came back for another 2 because it was so good and nowhere was better. There's a stony base but it's well drained. On-foot campers can cross land drain to use the far end with sheltered hedges - but no view. Mostly used by camper vans so generally quiet. Some sheep use this grazing land. Elevated site with stunning sunset views. Midges still find you! Easy quick access to good local shop, toilet block and cold water at vasin. Very clean. (No shower or hot water) Bar/ restaurant is friendly. Water supply at standpipe and good bin area. Honest box didn't rattle with cash so perhaps we all leave notes - bank notes, not IOUs. Heaven, I'm in heaven... Of all the places we have stayed in Scotland over the last 3 years, this is the one we like best. We've stayed here twice now. Fabulous views over the sea to the Applecross peninsula. Yes, its just a fleld with a tap and an honesty box (which you should use, please). But there is a loo block at he bottom of the hill with hot water, and a hotel bar along the road with good food and Isle of Skye real ales and a great band when we stayed one Saturday night. The fantastic Kishorn Seafoof Bar is between here and Lochcarron. If you can do without your creature comforts (hookups and hot showers) for one or two nights then this is the place to be!! Shieldaig Camping Area This is excatly what it says, a camping area. Not a camp-site with 4 star facitlities. It is a free camping area (with a honesty box, just to show your appreciation of the area) to pitch your tent, park your camper..etc. It is a beautiful place to stay. There is a cold watertap located just outside the site, this is also FREE to use. There are no activities for children at the site, but in all honesty it is the responsibility of the parents to keep the kids entertained. There are plenty of hills to climb around sheidaig to keep the young ones out off mischief. I have given 5 stars for everything on this camp area as it doesn't advertise to be any other than a beautiful FREE place to pitch up for a couple of nights. Shieldaig Camping Area We stayed here for 4 nights in August with our 3 young children. Not a camp-site to visit if looking for luxury's. Basic to the point of roughing it. No tourist information on site. Toilet with hot and cold water a short walk from camp-site (kept very clean) A cold water tap and bins at entrance to the camp-site. Location 1st class, This can not be beating Plenty of room for the kids to run about. Many great fishing spots. payment by donation box at entrance. I was upset to see many campers by-passing it. Stunning Shieldaig A basic but beautiful location, where one can enjoy peace and tranquility with a feeling of remoteness despite being on the edge of the small village of Shieldaig. Those staying can use the toilet and handbasin facilities a short stroll away; there are no shower facilities or electricity available, a small price to pay for such a magical environment. Payment is by donation. This is a perfect location for the mountains of Torrison which is only a few miles away or for anyone interested in fishing. I have stayed twice now and am looking forward to a time when I can head North for another stay.
