We had been cycling in horrible rain and wind, and hadn't eaten a proper meal in 4 days so when we arrived at Am Bothan to be told we could camp out the back AND use all the hostel facilities including cookers, lounge, kettle, drying room, showers... we were ecstatic. When we arrived there was only one other tent so we managed to find a less sloping bit, but then two others arrived that night showing that it's a popular place (ferry to Berneray just down the road which brings in people on an evening). Peat fire, cosy decor and clean facilities were very nice. Shower did keep changing temperature though so perhaps the plumbing is plumbed up wrong... But at least we were clean and dry. Leverburgh has a huge Co-op, cafés, restaurants, galleries and a post office. It is a lovely community which the hostel fits into nicely. We paid £10 pppn which for camping is steep, but as this was basically glamping, this was a delight for us to pay. Good welcome as well.

Can reccomend this place enough. Ruari is a fantastic relaxed host. The decor inside is something you wont find anywhere else. The fire and kitchen are fantastic, not to mention the view of the sun setting in the evening. Plenty of instruments for those musically inclined. Excellent place to dry off and compose yourself for the remainder of your journey. Facilities are brill.

Visited this hostel briefly last week . We were off for some wild camping at Luskentyre further up the coast but were desperate to shower and change when we arrived at Leverburgh.Knocked at the hostel to see if possible to use facilities if not staying there. Staff said this was fine. We paid ?3 each.Hostel very unusual quirky place full of interesting stuff with big windows looking out over the mountains of Harris and a wood burning stove.Looked like a very cosy place and would be great to camp there and use facilities,especially if the weather was bad and you needed to warm up and dry out your stuff. Kids quarters were great fun and the kitchen and shower facilities were excellent. Will definitely camp there next time.
