Wheems Bothies and Camping

Wheems is a small organic farm overlooking sandy bays and cliffs. In the south facing camping field there are some well insulated wooden family Camping Bothies with deck and glazed double doors opening to the sea view and sleeping up to 4. We provide bedding for these. Facilities of hot showers,washing facilities etc and a campers kitchen are available to all on the site. We sell in season organic vegetables ,fruit and eggs and there is a small gallery where work can be bought. Wheems is 15 miles south of Kirkwall by road across the causeways that link the islands. Ferries from mainland Scotland to Stomness are available as well as two ferries to South Ronaldsay itself. A ferry from John O'Groats in summer carries only foot passengers, but bikes are accepted. Pentland Ferries travel from Gills Bay and accepts cars. The journey takes about 40 minutes. The sites O.S grid reference is ND466916 and dogs are only accepted by arrangement.
