A stunning location, much tainted on this our second visit by the owners wife who summarily decided on day two that our and three other family's large tents had to be moved at once to the other end of her site for the astonishing reason that those staying in her holiday let wanted an uninterupted view of the bay. We complied, upon threat of a refund (unfortunately there are too few other sites on Islay). Visit only if you want basic, wild camping (we do!) and are prepared to be spoken to very curtly and on occasion aggressively by this elderly ex-school mistress if you step out of line.

Campsite was over-crowded and facilities were poor Show more

Campsite was over-crowded and facilities were poor - showers were filthy and cold, huge queues to use the only two washing up points, no drinking water - and it cost a fair whack (£16 for a two-man tent). Felt like the owners were cramming people in, making a healthy profit, but not using any of the money to improve the services. The view was fairly unbeatable, but if I went again, I'd either free camp, or head around the bay to Port Mor.

Lovely position right beside the sandy beach but quite expensive for what you get(£16). They tell you to boil the water but they should also say it is sandy and if you have a motorhome DO NOT put it into your onboard tank, it will block the pump filter. Be also aware that one of the other many regulations is you can't use the toilet in your van as they don't allow the empty out which is odd, they would rather you do it first hand straight into their toilet; which can be annoying if you have one of those heavenly spots right at the far side overlooking the sea. But grumbles aside it is well worth the visit.
