Located on the way into the lovely coastal village of Applecross when approaching over scenic A896. Note A896 not suitable for large campers & caravans. The site is under the ownership of Clive & Maureen Goldthorpe. It is an open site consisting of mainly grass pitches spread over two camping areas. The facilities block was upgraded during 2006. The laundry has a washing machine & dryer, along with this there is a small drying room. Wooden heated wigwams are available also. The campsite is open all year, but the cafe closes on October 31st.

Applecross Campsite This is the prettiest area in Scotland and the site is ideally located. Good pitches for tents and vans although bigger hard standing areas would be appreciated. The site is kept clean and tidy and is a wide open space with hook ups if required and water at each van pitch. The showers and toilet block are clean but get a little grubby at times especially on a rainy day. The meals on site are good quality and make a change from cooking especially on a damp day and the beers and wines are kept right in the cellar. The staff are friendly and helpful and always have a kind greeting. I will return to this site as its value for money and quiet outside school holiday times. The trip over the mountain is awesome but check the suitability of your van for the road. Applecross Campsite Well as we hit "the cattle pass" I thought this better be worth it !!! And boy I was NOT disapointed - as we climbed and climbed then reached the peak the goosebumps started and the most breathtaking view of applecross bay came into view!! Really warm welcome at the campsite and free to pitch wherever we wanted. Facilities were fine, while not 5 star, they were always clean and never any Qs. Only planned to stay 3 nights but the lure of the games kept us there for over a week!! Back over the "cattle pass" to stock up was an adventure but worth it, The games and the dance at night to Rythm N Reel was fantastic. Just watch out for the dog!!! Food and drink at the polytunnel was brilliant and a good place to hang out and meet everyone onsite. Applecross Inn just down the road serves good food and drink but please be wary of the shortcut from the campsite if you have had a few! Head along to the walled garden for a lovely lunch in tranquil surroundings. Honestly once of the most beautiful locations I have ever been to. Applecross Campsite We made the memorable journey to Applecross (over the bealach-na-ba) and were greeted at the campsite with a laid back, friendly welcome. This is an excellent site with plenty of well-spaced pitches and a beautiful elevated view over the bay. The easy access to Applecross Inn is an added bonus. Food at the flower tunnel was great, especially for breakfast. Showers could be improved but as the site owners explained they are hindered by ongoing negotiations with their landlord over extending their lease. This campsite is a great destination after a memorable road trip and is well worth the effort it takes to get there. Applecross Campsite, Recent Trip We stayed here for the Applecross Games Weekend, and the only way to describe this was absolutely excellent. This is a fantastic event and they had the most fantastic band playing in the evening, where people from far and wide came to the dance in the marquee. We camped at the far end of this site, and we have a young child. There was no problems with him or myself and the wife sleeping with the music at night, and you are made aware of the fact that there will be music till the early hours by signs all over the site and village, so no one could complain about the noise. We will be back again in the future. P.S. the road to the site (Bealach Na Ba) is the most amazing road i have driven on, and the views are fantastic. Applecross Campsite We had decided on another West Coast trip this year and had planned to visit Applecross, as we wanted to drive over the Bealach na ba, and what a road !, awesome surroundings and views, not for the faint hearted. As we arrived on site, we were welcomed by the relaxed feel to the place, and the modern and homely surroundings of the reception and cafe bar area adjoining the Flower Tunnel. After booking in and finding a pitch, a few glasses of red vino and a trip down to the Bay by the Inn, we were mucho happy with our decision to stay here. Next day we had a meal and a few drinks in the Flower Tunnel, the Chilli and Tortillas are to be recommended, we had another relaxing evening dodging the midges, before bed. Facilities on site are very good, toilets are only busy if you go at busy times, get up an hour earlier, and it is no trouble at all. All in all a great site, we will definitely be back. Applecross Campsite My husband and I stayed here for the Applebross Games. Firstly, I think everyone who arrived via the Lochcarron - Applecross road should automatically get some sort of t-shirt which states they succesfully made it! What a trip. The sign at the start of the road should be taken seriously as your knuckles tighten round the edge of your seat as you climb higher and higher... you almost feel as if your car might tip back at the steeper hairpin bends on the road. We thought we were doing well until we looked back and saw an HGV lorry doing remarkably well. When we did eventually arrive, it was perhaps a bit busier than usual ass it was fullybooked for the games. People were arriving expecting to get sites but had to be turned away, others were asking to book for an extra night and were also told there was no space. We pitched our tent and sat and admired our surroundings.We were in the 2nd field away from the Games area. It was much quieter in this area with more families camping here. The little wooden huts looked fab and we might look into getting them next time we go. On site there is free internet access, a pizza place in the flower tunnel, a bar, public telephone, little store where you can buy midge spray and the toilets and showers are excellent. The games itself was amazing. So much to do and a great community spirit. At night there is a dance which we didn't go to but we enjoyed sitting outside listening to the music and laughter with our beers and our midge spray!!! The next part of the reivew is one I do not wish to dwell on. There were some problems on the night of the games concerning the youths who dedided to decend on the campsite. This is being dealt with by the campsite very efficiently and we will certainly NOT let this put us off returning. Applecross Campsite I have read with intrest the coments placed by other campers and feel I need to put my penneth worth in to the mix. my first experience of Applecross was some four years ago, when I and 10 or 12 other friends travelled there on motorbikes, (what a ride).... recommend it to any biker. When we arrived I was a little sceptical as to what had I let myself in for, I had heard all the hype about the infamouse Applecross sea food festival and was eager to see for myself just what it was all about. So after six hours ride we arrived at the camp site reception. releived, tired and eager to get the tents up, so as to enable liquid refreshent of the alcoholic kind to be consumed. five minutes later we had done all the official stuff, paid what monies needed to be handed over. I was already happy with the proffesional, but somewhat laid back aproach of the staff who made the booking in process a doddle. having camped in Germany several times, where the rules and regs have to be read and adherared to very stringently.... this was a breath of fresh air.. An hour later tents up, leathers off, flip flops and shorts doned.. we headed off to the Inn...... by now the sun was setting and with a glass of well chilled chataue du Lager in hand.... I watched the most beautiful sunset over the bay.... "This is the life".... I thought to myself. The Sea Food Fest..... was a mixture of peaple who liked good Food, Music and an atmosphere, and background second to none. A Dance was held in the village hall and transport was laid on free of charge from and to the camp site. and a gay time was had by all, well it was by a bloke called Gordon.? Since then I have been to Applecross twice a year with my family, who have enjoyed the experience of Applecross just as much as I. The peoople who run the site want to make improvements but are restricted in what they can do because of conservation orders and such beyond their control. I have found the site to be first class. Afterall, I am camping, in one ofthe most remote parts of Scotland, and so what if the toilet door takes a little time to lock.... and there is little hole or two in the shower curtain... .if you want luxury go to a hotel and pay £80 or £90 a night...... but when you look out of youre window in the morning will you see the views here in Applecross?. I dont think so. I will be back this year, and for a long time to come.....love the place. Applecross Campsite We've just spent a couple of days here - beautiful, although ground a bit soft after wet summer. Sad to see turf torn up by camper vans. It could be tricky to dry out clothes etc. if soft weather persists: I wonder if it'd be possible to provide a room with drying racks for boots, coats etc? Maybe not feasible, and this applies to all sites of course. There is a laundry room with washing machines and a dryer. Washing up facilities under cover. Broch under archaeological excavation at back of site - open to inquisitive visitors. Facilities - yes, toilet door locks irritating, but all else okay. Showers are push button but included in price - no fiddling with coin meters etc. Staff efficient, courteous, pleasant. Best Scone in Scotland award, I'd say - a very light touch, and fresh baked daily. Good tea and coffee. Fresh pizza v tasty (almost too much topping - I couldn't squeeze in delicious looking homemade desserts). Licensed - reasonable wine selection. I think we were fortunate that the cafe stayed open one evening as a group had booked in - out of season youÃ¢â‚¬â„¢d need to check if itÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s open after 17.00. Free (wireless) internet access (i.e. a PC available too) a nice amenity (although I didn't use it). Flower tunnel lovely. Asked if info recycling facilities (where/what) could be posted on site - community bins in car park across road from shop near pub; not very obvious and some campers hadn't found them, so bottles, cans etc going in general rubbish. Other eateries: pub (Applecross Inn) 5 mins and The Potting Shed (in grounds of Applecross House), 15 mins walk. Area has fresh blood since we were last here more than 10 years ago - great to see; I wonder if The Applecross Trust has made the difference? See http://www.applecrosstrust.org.uk/. Applecross Campsite and Bakery Have used site a few times in the past and have always found the staff to be very helpful, friendly and laid back. Hope the amenities block upgrade has worked as it was pretty basic before (though functional). The tunnel is a good amenity and the village itself with the Inn on the campsite doorstep is fantastic. Pitches can waterlog a bit during heavy weather but not as bad as some other sites I've used and hey, it's the NW of Scotland after all. I'd reccommend the place wholeheartedly and will be back soon. Applecross Campsite and Bakery We have just returned home after a short break up north (it shold have been longer but severe weather wrecked our tent), Applecross was just one of the sites we stayed at & it was fantastic. We arrived late pitched our tent sat back & enjoyed the tranquil & beautiful scenery the campsite is set in. We took our two dogs for a walk down by the water about 10pm -even at that time of night the views were gorgeous The facilities were adequate & clean, the staff were very helpful & friendly. We are returning to Applecross in 2 weeks time to finish the holiday that gale force winds in Ullapoo lcut short last week . Incidently the road ( well over 2000ft above sea level) from Applecross to Ullapool is breath taking, terrifying & well worth travelling for the really spectacular views.word of warning don't even attempt to drive this road if you are not a well experienced & confident driver. Applecross Campsite and Bakery Stayed at this site lat week.Toilets/showers fine.Had difficulty ,at first ,locking toilet doors(possibly due to low expectations after reading a recent review!)but discovered there was a bit of a knack to this procedure and thereafter no problem at all.Site was a bit waterlogged after heavy rain and feel owners should invest in some more hardstanding.Should have mentioned this on site as there were notices asking people to put complaints to them directly! Good point ,so I do apologise for not. All in all a pleasant relaxed wee site in a fantastic area.We enjoyed the music and the food in the Flower Cafe.Even if we had not liked the music it was not loud .All I can say is hope we can return and pity site is not open in the winter. P.S. The chemical toilet disposal site is well signposted ,above groundlevel and more than adequate. Applecross Campsite and Bakery First visit to Applecross, lovely setting of this campsite. Flower tunnel do good food and drink. Staff friendly. The only thing that let this site down was the toilet facilities. They had supposed to have been renovated but I would have hated to have seen them before. The toilet locks were difficult and in some cases impossible to work. This was the same thought of all fellow campers. The showers were pretty grim with nowhere to put your toiletries, the wooden ceilings were black with mould, the shower curtain was discoloured yellow with black mould speckled throughout and was full of holes. How much does a new shower curtain cost?? This is basic hygiene. The toilets were clean but at least 2 of the seats were cracked in the middle. No soap provided at wash basins. Applecross Campsite As a member of staff at the site, I felt that I had to defend a couple of comments from the last review. The lady emptying the elson was actually instructed to empty into a drain that was situated next to the bins and not on the ground. This drain is a low level drain so I am assuming that the gentleman did not actually see this. The bins were in fact not rotting, because we are a rural village at the other side of the highest road in Britain, we only get one refuse pick up a week (Highland Council Policy for you)! We do our very best in busy times to keep as much of the rubbish tidied into the skips. Our outdoor cleaner of staff spent a lot of his mornings doing this (not pleasant for him). Most of the staff were not actually from Australia, 2 of them were (a couple)and were excellent at their jobs. If they had seen unacceptable sanitary conditions I am sure that they would have made comment! The time team site was covered by the time team as it and was in danger of being destroyed by people walking through it. Some local members of the community including campsite staff have now formed an archaeological society and are awaiting word of funding to carry out a community dig, which everyone is really excited about. The campsite can not cater for everyones musical taste so its a shame that our music was not enjoyed in the Bar. I really hope that you will come back and see that we are not that bad! Applecross Campsite and Bakery second visit to applecross first visit to campsite,good toilet and shower facilities and all for only 6 notes a nicht.200 yards to applecross inn and superb views and a seafood junkies idea of heaven at the inn planned to stay two or three nights but cut short to one night owing to too much of the amber nectar at the inn and after a visit to doctor finlay in the village it was of to raigmore hospital in inverness with broken ankle trying to take short cut home to the campsite from the inn DO NOT USE THE ROUGH HILL BESIDE THE INN TO GET HOME TO THE CAMPSITE! but as douglas macarthur once said. Applecross Campsite and Bakery My visit was In July 2006 accompanied by glorious sunshine and a spectacular drive over the Bealach nam Bo. I had planned this trip after watching the ''Time Team'' dig on tv. and reading the reviews on this site but I was disappointed throughout my two day visit. The site is scenic and well enough kept but I found the staff in the Flower Tunnel more interested in playing their own music over the sound system than attending to their customers and I found the pointed comment that ''they don't like our music then'' as we left the tunnel, insulting. I hope that these are not the newly renovated toilets as none of the locks function in the Gents cubicles which led to some embarassment and there was no toilet paper in either the Gents or Ladies during our stay, I found no soap for hand washing either. My wife and I witnessed a foreign lady attempting to empty an Elsan in the signposted drain but she was then instructed to empty it on the ground beside the overflowing skips of rotting rubbish outside the back door of the bar where it was then hosed down. This would not be acceptable in Australia where most of the staff seem to come from and it certainly is not acceptable here. Applecross has spectacular scenery and you must visit the area once in your life but take a toilet roll! The ''Time Team'' dig has overgrown and nothing is now to be seen. Charming get away from it all Site Previous reviewer seems to have covered it well. I visited when site was fairly quiet (June 05) and it was perfect (could be slightly cramped I suppose if full). Most pitches are fairly flat, some have electric hook up, toilets are clean (and there's soap in the soap dispensers too), free hot showers (don't be fooled by antiquated plumbing, water comes out roasting hot and with some force..... Fabulous after long walk!!), a laundry and indoor dishwashing area. Toilet block is due for an upgrade later this year, which in some ways is a pity as it has a certain quaint charm.... get there before it goes if you can. Midges weren't a problem during stay either. In fact, only complaint I have is view from campsite somewhat ruined by deer fence which encloses site. earthy scotland If you get the weather this has got to be one of the nicest places on the globe. We've been six times for various lengths of stay and have always found it and the surrounding area very rewarding but you do have to forget about your car for awhile to appreciate. Which is no real bother as pub/great sea food is near at hand i.e. 100yrds down towards the sea. Bakery/cafe on site is very good also and has large poly tunnel to take refuge in if need be, which has its own micro climate with plants to match warmth which can be found with in.
