Just home after 10 nights at Borve. A superb location right at the edge of the Atlantic with ever changing seascapes and spectacular sunsets. Donald the owner is improving the site every year. The small facilities block is immaculate and the kitchen which is looked after by Kirsty is amazingly well provided - small oven, microwave, toaster, sandwich toaster, kettle, hair drier and washing liquid, towels etc.. Also washing machine and tumble drier. Two female WCs and showers. One male WC and shower - though also a disabled shower/WC. The site was full for 4 days (about 13 vans) but never any queues for toilets/showers. We had gales on 2 days and had to put down the steadies but enjoyed watching the stormy seas. Lots of nice walks in the area. Co-op in Castlebay is well stocked and prices reasonable. O2 phone signal is excellent but doesn't work in Castlebay where Orange does work.

We finished our tour of the Outer Hebrides in Show more

We finished our tour of the Outer Hebrides in June/July 14 with 3 nights here at Borve. Of the 7 sites we stayed on we rated this the overall best as 2 adults without children - but is had some very stiff competition. It is a bit exposed but the views are worth it - particularly if you get a bit of a storm as we did and the sea becomes like a cauldron as it rushes in and out of the bay you are perched over. Great base for cycling and walking on Barra. The Beach Hotel is just 10 mins walk down the quiet road if you fancy treating yourself to a gourmet meal - although the place may seem a bit up market they are in fact very welcoming to campsite users who just want to come in for a drink. From talking to campsite owner Donald - very friendly and helpful guy - it sounds like he has plans to expand the site and increase the number of pitches - but I am sure this will not detract from the beauty of the location .

Campsite at Sliochd Uaine, Borve, Isle of Barra Show more

Campsite at Sliochd Uaine, Borve, Isle of Barra now partially open but no facilities as yet. Excellent location for sunsets and nature watching. Five minutes walk from Isle of Barra Beach Hotel for pub and food. Two miles from main town of Castlebay and mainland ferry terminal.
