We chose this site without reading any reviews and we were certainly not disappointed. The site is located on the outskirts of Beattock approx. 1.5 miles from Moffat where you will find shops, pubs, restaurants etc. Access to the Southern Upland Way is just a few minutes from the site. A point to note, which has not been mentioned in previous reviews is that the site is located approx. 300 yards from the main West Coast Railway line. You can here trains passing by at all times of the day and night although less frequently at night! If you are looking for a peaceful, tranquil site then this may not be the place for you. Although we were aware of the trains it certainly did not spoil our holiday and was more than compensated for by the stunning location and scenery.
The welcome was very friendly and the staff were very relaxed about where you pitched. We took an electrical hook-up which meant we were alongside mainly touring caravans. The pitches are slightly sloping and again this was not a big issue. The toilet block was spotlessly clean with plenty of cubicles and showers to cope, even in the busiest of periods. Whilst the showers etc. were a little dated, they were perfectly serviceable and delivered a hot shower with adequate water flow. The Pine Tavern is the main hub on the site. A relaxed family pub serving good home-cooked food at affordable prices. Children are catered for with a play area just outside the Tavern. There is also a very small shop on site offering the usual essentials. Dogs are also welcome on the site and as far as I could tell there was no additional charge.
Overall we really enjoyed our stay and would definitely return for another visit and the opportunity to tackle a few more miles of the Southern Upland Way!
